Your baby is about the size of a cumin seed.

About 5 mm long. Typical sizes; every baby grows at their own pace.

What’s happening this week

Your baby's heart has started to beat, and a flicker may be seen on a scan around now or next week. Small buds that will become arms and legs are appearing. The face is beginning to take shape.

Changes in your body

Morning sickness often starts around now, and it can come at any time of day. Smells you liked may suddenly bother you. If you can't keep any food or water down, talk to your doctor.

Small meals for a queasy tummy

Try small, frequent snacks like dry toast, khakhra or poha instead of three big meals. Sipping water, coconut water or nimbu paani through the day may help.

Bleeding, fluid leaking, fewer baby movements, a bad headache, blurred vision or sudden swelling: call your doctor or hospital now. In an emergency, call 112.
