Your baby is about the size of a pomegranate seed.

About 1 cm long. Typical sizes; every baby grows at their own pace.

What’s happening this week

Your baby's brain is growing fast. The arm and leg buds are getting longer, and tiny hands and feet are beginning to form. The kidneys and liver are developing.

Changes in your body

Your womb is growing, though nobody can see it yet. You may need to pee often, feel bloated or notice smells more strongly. Bleeding or strong pain in your tummy is a reason to call your doctor straight away.

Your first scan

Many doctors suggest an early scan to check the pregnancy is in the womb and to see the heartbeat. Write your questions down before you go so you don't forget them.

Bleeding, fluid leaking, fewer baby movements, a bad headache, blurred vision or sudden swelling: call your doctor or hospital now. In an emergency, call 112.
